Crawford Wins All-Star MVP With No RBIs or Scored Runs

Last night, the American League played the National League in the 2009 MLB All-Star Game. The AL won, with a score of 4-3, making it the 13th year in a row they have been victorious. What marked an important part of this game, was the man chosen to recieve the MVP award.

For the first time in Midsummer Classic, the All-Star MVP award was give to someone who did not drive in or score a run. But despite that, Tampa Bay's Carl Crawford certainly proved he was deserving of the title with his phenomenal catch in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Colorado's Brad Hawpe hit off a 94-mph fastball into left field, where Crawford jumped and caught the ball, which was already flying over the back wall.
Crawford's fellow American League teammate, Andrew Bailey, commented on the catch: "I saw his glove flip over the wall with the ball in it. He does deserve the MVP. That was amazing." AL All-Star manager Joe Maddon agrees. "The way he got to the position on the ball was great, and the catch, obviously, was fantastic."

Crawford believes this play was the best of his career. "It's got to be the top play," Crawford said. "I don't think I've ever robbed a home run before, so I picked a good time to do it tonight. It's definitely probably my best catch I've ever made." And of his MVP award, he was suprised, shocked and estatic.
