Today is Blog Action Day 2008. The topic for this year is Poverty. The goal of Blog Action Day is to foster a discussion about poverty and use the power of social media to increase awareness of the issues. At Takkle, we're striving to create a platform that enables athletes from any social sphere to get together around sports. The internet is a great equalizer and it's our goal to offer a free way for kids to share their passion, improve their game and help them improve their chances to pursue an athletic career. Our partner, the NCSA has created a foundation to "to provide opportunities for all qualified student athletes regardless of economic status" and we strongly support this initiative.

The challenge facing our nation when it comes to poverty is grave and the recent economic troubles should a reminder to everyone that poverty is not as distant and removed as we would like it. The most vulnerable are our young student-athletes, they succeed on the field and in the classroom, but face barriers when it comes to paying for college. For some paying for college is not an issue, but for most Americans the cost of college tuition can be back breaking and even worse a deal breaker. It is this dilemma that has led National Collegiate Scouting Association president and founder Chris Krause to create the Collegiate Athletic Educational Foundation and publish his first book “Athletes Wanted.”
The soon to be published book “Athletes Wanted” details the world of the struggling student-athlete burdened by a recruiting process that can be confusing, expensive, and at times heart breaking. However, the book also provides hope by explaining that college recruiting is a game and all we need to know is how to play it.
All proceeds from the book are contributed to the nonprofit 501 (c)3 Collegiate Athletic Educational Foundation (CAEF). CAEF is the philanthropic arm of the National Collegiate Scouting Association, formed to provide recruiting opportunities for all qualified student-athletes regardless of economic status. CAEF also contributes to the Chicago community with volunteer efforts such as mentoring, coaching and charitable giving.
Through “Athletes Wanted” and CAEF the National Collegiate Scouting Association is able to create a stronger America by mobilizing student-athletes to achieve educational and financial success, providing the tools and leadership for them to give back to their communities.
